Reaching out for collaboration
RUDESAT International reaches out to KIOF (Kenya Institute of Organic Farming)
In an effort to build social capital, staff of RUDESAT International paid a visit to the Kenya Institute of Organic Farming, KIOF, about 30 kilometres north of the city of Nairobi. The purpose of the visit was manifold, and included:
- Familiarising themselves with activities of KIOF
- Discussing ways of establishing collaboration between the two organizations
- Authenticating content on rapid composting, for a leaflet in the RUDESAT Villagers’ Companion Series, which RUDESAT International is finalizing. KIOF has a lot of hands-on experience on making organic manure.
Representatives of the two organizations had a 40-minute discussion in which they briefed one another on their respective mandates and activities. The discussion then focused on composting activities of KIOF, before the visitors were shown KIOF’s composting facilities and some of the farm activities in which the composite manure is used.
RUDESAT International obtained valuable information that will complement the content already compiled for the draft leaflet on rapid composting.
On longer-term collaboration, it was agreed that another meeting be arranged soon, to discuss modalities of the collaboration.
